They may be employed in places such as hotels, offices, casinos, warehouses, airports, and event venues. A security officer can earn an above-average salary while also providing a necessary service to the community by protecting private property and people.
The BLS reported that security guards earned an average of $32,920 yearly. The top-earning 25% made more than $48,000 yearly. Security guards with advanced certifications, such as licenses for firearm permits, could earn more.
Many security guard positions require at least a high school diploma. Specific training for the position could be required. Areas of speciality could include working with a certain type of client (e.g., disabled people), working with a specific type of equipment (e.g., metal detectors), or working in a particular industry (e.g., museums).
Firefighter
Firefighters are responsible for extinguishing fires, rescuing people from burning buildings, and providing emergency medical care. They respond to fire and medical calls, operate fire engines and other specialized equipment, and perform daily fire prevention duties.
Firefighters work in a variety of settings, including urban and rural areas. Some firefighters work for government agencies; others work for private companies. In any setting, firefighters must be physically fit, highly dependable, and able to respond quickly to emergencies.
A firefighter can protect the community while earning an average salary. The BLS reported that firefighters earned an average of $46,080. Firefighters can receive benefits, such as health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, and paid holidays.
Firefighters also receive job security because there will always be a need for them. To become a firefighter, you must attend a college or training program. In most cases, this education program lasts between 6 months and 2 years. After graduation, you must pass a certification exam before you can work as a full-time firefighter.
